Unlock iPhone by using Passkey instead of password; check step-by-step process here

Image
The iPhone is renowned for its excellent security features. Your screen passcode and iCloud password are utilised to secure an iPhone once it has been configured. These iPhone passwords are the defences that will keep intruders out of your confidential data. However, forgetting your iPhone password can be a major hassle. While you can reset your iPhone’s passcode by doing a restore using iTunes or Finder, some individuals prefer an easier process to sign in. Now, passkeys can now be used by iPhone users to sign in, doing away with the burden of remembering multiple passwords. A passkey gives iPhone users a quick and safe way to sign in without passwords. It uses Face ID or Touch ID to recognise users when they login to websites and applications that support the feature. The passkey is saved on the iPhone in iCloud Keychain, making it accessible from all of your devices where your Apple ID is active. This feature is only available on iOS 16, iPadOS 16, macOS Ventura, and tvOS 16. Ac

Twitter plans to charge users $20 per month for Blue Ticks for verified users, starting November 7

Image
With Elon Musk now in charge of Twitter, we are bound to see some major changes to the platform. People who are still working with the social media platform have informed reporters that they have been asked by Musk to introduce paid verification on Twitter. According to a report by The Verge Musk has ordered Twitter employees to expand the scope of Twitter’s Twitter Blue subscription. Currently, Twitter Blue subscribers pay $5 dollars a month for an exclusive list of features, such as editing tweets, access to new features earlier, and a few other exclusive features. Musk wants the subscription charges to be increased to $20 per month for every Twitter Blue subscriber. For that $20, users will also be getting the highly coveted Blue Tick or verified badge from Twitter. So basically, instead of verifying whether a user is actually important or a significant user who uses the platform, Musk wants the feature to be accessible to all, who are willing and ready to pay to have a verified

Explained: How Elon Musk is trying to avoid paying $122 million severance to Parag & other fired Twitter execs

Image
One of the first things that Elon Musk did after taking over Twitter was to fire its top brass. This included CEO Parag Agrawal, CFO Ned Segal and General Counsel Vijaya Gadde and a number of other executives. Furthermore, several reports have emerged that he plans on terminating a number of other people before November 1, so that he can avoid giving stock grants that are due to all employees of Twitter, on November 1. When Parag was made CEO, he was replacing Jack Dorsey, the founder & CEO of Twitter at that point. Parag’s contract stipulated that Agrawal is entitled to get $42 million from Twitter if he were terminated within 12 months of a change in control as a severance package, some component in the form of a bonus, and all of his wages that were accrued to him. Similarly, other top executives who were to be fired were owed some handsome severance packages. All in all, just the executives who were terminated were supposed to receive about $122 million as severance. Howev

Racial slurs on Twitter increased by 500 per cent after Elon Musk took over, platform blames trolling campaign

Image
Elon Musk finally took control of Twitter last week after buying it for a record $44 billion, one of the highest amounts anyone has ever paid in a tech acquisition. When Elon made the original offer to buy Twitter, Musk said that he is a free-speech absolutist . Musk and his fans had positioned him as an entity that would safeguard free speech at all costs. Well, it turns out, people really put that theory to the test. As per a report by The Washington Post, the use of certain derogatory epithets for African-Americans, Jews, and East Asians increased by up to 500 per cent on the platform, once news broke of Elon Musk taking over Twitter and firing most of its executive command, including CEO Parag Agarwal . The Network Contagion Research Institute (NCRI), a research group based out of Princeton, that analyzes social media content to predict emerging threats, said that the use of the N-word on Twitter increased by nearly 500 per cent in the 12 hours immediately after Musk’s deal was

Newly appointed ‘Chief Twit’ Elon Musk opens up about the real reason why he bought, but to advertisers

Image
After months of going back and forth, and calling each other all sorts of names, Elon Musk and Twitter have finally signed the deal to complete Twitter’s acquisition. Musk now officially owns the micro-blogging site. However, one question that a lot of people have and still haven’t gotten an answer to, is why. Why did Elon Musk, really buy Twitter? People close to the ‘technoking’ have often revealed that Twitter will be the stepping stone upon which Musk will create his “everything” app or a super platform called ‘X.com.’ While that may be true, Musk did not really need to acquire the platform to create his own super app.  Elon Musk, soon after taking over Twitter , put out a Tweet, clarifying why exactly he bought Twitter, in the manner in which he did. One thing to note is that more than the users of the platform, Musk addressed the people, who he thinks really matter – the advertisers. Apple executive confirms iPhones will come with USB-C world over for the foreseeable future

Image
Apple has officially confirmed that the upcoming iPhones and all subsequent mobile devices will have USB-C ports, at least for the foreseeable future. Earlier this year, the European Union passed legislation that made it compulsory for all mobile phone and electronics manufacturers to adopt USB-C as the universal, standard charging port. The legislation was mainly aimed at Apple and their continued usage of the Lightning Port on their iPhones and a number of other devices.  Responding to a question about Apple’s adoption of the Type-C port , Apple marketing lead Greg Joswiak told The Wall Street Journal that the engineers at Apple will replace the Lighting port even if the teams are not happy with the change. The Apple executives said “the Europeans are the ones dictating timing for European customers” which is a sophisticated way of saying nothing about the timeline for the switch. Joswiak refused to answer whether Apple will ship a connector sold outside the EU, but that seems v

In case you have tried to purchase the iPhone 14 Pro or the iPhone 14 Pro Max from an authorised retailer in Delhi NCR in the last couple of weeks, chances are that you may have heard from a number of retailers that the devices are not available with them. And for good reason. While it was announced that Apple, in a bid to reduce its reliance on China, will start making the iPhone 14 and the iPhone 14 Pro series in India. However, a number of reports have surfaced that claim that Apple is not making the iPhone 14 Pro series in India, just the regular, vanilla version of the iPhone 14 . The iPhone 14 Plus’ production has been suspended mainly because of a lack of demand . The devices that people are looking for the most, the base variant of the iPhone 14 Pro and the iPhone 14 Pro Max, are not readily available in India, at least in Delhi-NCR. This has turned out to be a golden opportunity for players in the black market and for private sellers, who are making money hand over fist. S

Pixel 6a led to significant growth for Google's hardware department in terms of revenues this year

Image
Google announced the Pixel 6a in May this year and then launched the device in July. It turns out the device is proving extremely successful and profitable for the tech giant. During Alphabet’s Q3 2022 Earnings Call, Chief Financial Officer Ruth Porat credited the Pixel 6a as being primarily responsible for solid growth in hardware revenues. Google’s Hardware Revenue, like from the sales of Pixel 6a , is reported as part of “Google other” revenues with $6.895 billion in Q2 2022 compared to $6.754 billion in the same quarter in 2021.  That category includes paid YouTube subscriptions, with Porat similarly crediting YouTube Music Premium and YouTube TV for delivering ongoing strong growth.  Earlier in the call, Sundar Pichai said that Google “recently had [its] highest selling week ever for Pixel” in reference to the 7 and 7 Pro . In February, the CEO previously touted a “quarterly sales record” for Pixel phones after the 6 and 6 Pro launch. Pichai also stated that Google Hardware

Elon Musk tells lenders and banks that he would close the Twitter deal by Friday, raises $13 billion as debt

Image
It seems that Elon Musk is finally going to close the Twitter deal rather soon. In a closed-door meeting with investors, banks and other lenders , Musk reportedly said that he is going to close the deal with Twitter by this Friday, and will soon be signing the papers necessary to get the deal closed. In the process, Musk was also able to raise $13 billion as a loan from banks and lenders to go ahead with the transaction. All of this implies that the only thing left to do is for Musk and Twitter’s teams to get the papers signed and filed to the relevant authorities. According to people familiar with the matter, this will be the final stage before the funds are given to Musk. The banks handling the debt received a borrowing notice on Tuesday. According to people familiar with the matter, the cash is expected to be held in escrow on Thursday. Sources claim that the investors who are backing Musk in his acquisition bid to buy Twitter include equity investors like Sequoia Capital, Binan

NASA plans on testing crash landing space module on Mars to make inter-planetary exploration cheaper

Image
NASA as well as a number of other space agencies have had many successful missions to Mars, and are currently exploring the Martian surface for a number of reasons. All in all, NASA themselves have landed on Mars about 9 times so far. However, the space agency now wants know, what it would take to crash land onto a different planet, and how should they go about it. NASA is currently testing out an entirely new way to land on the surface of Mars and other similar planets, in which, instead of going for a soft landing, they plan to crash land their vehicles. The American space agency had just successfully conducted their DART mission , in which they crashed a basic satellite into the Didymos moon of the Dimorphos mini asteroid. NASA plans to take a similar approach with their latest experiment, but this time around, the objective is to ensure minimal damage to the crash-landing spacecraft . To that end, NASA has designed a new experimental lander called SHIELD or Simplified High Impa

Explained: What is Clean Energy Charging that Apple has enabled on their latest iPhones

Image
Apple has enabled one of the most promising charging features on its latest iPhones and certain older models of the iPhone, if they have updated to the most recent version of iOS, i.e. iOS 16.1. Called Clean Energy Charging, the new system, ideally, should be the next big thing in charging technology. Over the last couple of years, battery charging technology, especially in smartphones has gone insane. We moved from 33W fast charging as the industry to 45W-60W in no time. We even have cell phones that go upto 150W of fast charging. While having a quick chrarging time is good, in the pursuit of speed, tech companies have completely ignored efficiency and just how wasteful certain charging methodologies can be. What is Apple’s Clean Energy Charging? Apple’s Clean Energy Charging feature aims to “reduce a user’s carbon footprint” by charging when lower carbon-emission electricity is available. Basically, what the new feature does, is that when it is enabled on an iPhone, the device ge

Google will officially stop supporting Chrome for Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 from next year

Image
For most PC enthusiasts, Windows 7 was one of the best operating systems that Microsoft has released in decades. While Microsoft pulled the plug on the operating system about two years, ago, one of the biggest support systems it had up until now, has decided that it will no longer support Windows 7. Google has officially announced that it will stop updating its Chrome browser for Windows 7, starting 2023. Just to give you an idea of how popular and well-received theWindows 7 operating system was, consider this – despite the fact that it was first released in 2009 and Microsoft officially ended supporting it in 2020, there are at least 100 million active devices that use Windows 7, and connect to the internet, daily. As opposed to that, the next Windows OS, Windows 8.1, does not have even half of those numbers. This does not include the number of air-gapped devices, or devices that are running on a pirated copy of Windows 7. From a security standpoint, this is a huge deal. Google, p

Explained: How the US Govt. may kill Elon Musk’s Twitter deal, and why Musk may be secretly hoping for it

Image
After going through all the drama between Elon Musk and his team, and Twitter, it turns out that it may be the US government who has the final say in the Elon Musk-Twitter deal. After going back and forth a number of times over his proposal to buy Twitter for $44 billion, Elon Musk finally committed to his plan and stated that he will indeed buy Twitter for the agreed-upon amount. The issue is, that Musk, at least according to several trade analysts is overpaying for Twitter if he buys the company for the agreed-upon $44 billion mark.  Superficially, Musk has maintained that if he buys Twitter, it would be hugely beneficial for his goal of launching a super app or his own social media platform, called X.com . However, Musk has also indicated very subtly that he does not want to buy Twitter, not for the price of $44 billion at least. If Musk is forced to go through with the deal, he will be paying much more than what Twitter is worth as of writing this article. That is also being to

Apple will release a foldable iPad worth $2,300-2,500, by 2024, before they launch a foldable iPhone

Image
Tech enthusiasts and fans of Apple have been waiting for the tech company to finally enter the foldable devices market and launch the foldable iPhone. Apple, on the other hand, wants to get the foldable iPhone just right and hence is taking its time to make one. Now, certain reports claim that we might actually get a foldable iPad before we get the foldable iPhone. As per marketing research firm CCS Insight’s annual predictions report, Apple would be keen to avoid any technical issues with a folding phone and instead prefer to dip its toes into the foldable market through a tablet. The main reason behind this could be the fact that a folding iPhone would be risky for Apple as it may downgrade the sales of the conventional iPhone, one of Apple’s most profitable devices. There are reports that Apple is in talks with LG to develop an ultra-thin cover glass for its entire range of foldable devices. Rumours from reputable Apple tipsters have suggested that in 2024, Apple will launch a
